Black Eyed Susan (Commonly known as Suzie)

Suzie is a spaniel mix that we found at Helping Hands in April 1996 when she was two years old. After looking at all of the dogs several times, my husband, John, and I were drawn back to Suzie because she seemed to speak to us. It was a rainy day and she had been outside and was wet and rather pathetic looking, but after visiting with her, we determined she would be a great addition to our family which included Tiffany, a Sheltie, Ashley, a Collie and Ryan, a Golden Retriever mix. After adopting her, we put her in the back seat with a blanket, but she immediately jumped into my lap, so I road home with a wet dog on my lap. She has such a sweet, gentle disposition and has always been a friendly, loving, unassuming and obedient dog that likes all people and gets along with all of the dogs that have come into our lives over the years. In her younger days she accompanied me to many speaking engagements at schools and nursing homes. She was always a big hit and she basked in the attention that she received during these outings. It is hard to believe that she is eleven years old now because she still acts like a young dog and the only visible sign of aging is the white hair that has crept into her distinctive black eye.
