Kai

I adopted Kai from Helping Hands Humane Society in 2001. I have a soft spot in my heart for Shetland Sheepdogs. The story I was told about Kai is this: a year before he came to live with me "Shag" had been brought in from a raid/closure of a puppy mill breeding operation. He was originally adopted by a couple. Kai had "bonded" with the husband and was "his" dog. The couple had recently split up and Kai was left with the wife. He was still very shy and timid. She brought him back to HHHS. He was featured on a local TV station as available for adoption. I spotted him, adopted him and "Kai" became his new name. I brought him home and he immediately found his favorite spot, under my bed. He still loves to hide under my bed, but comes out to greet company (especially any male guests). He loves to be held, cuddled and run in the backyard and is a great watch dog. He was already housebroken and I taught him to walk on a leash, sit and shake hands. He was a quick study. Kai is now nine years old and shares the house with two other shelties.
