Nikki

To the staff at HHHS,

Nikki is doing awesome! She settled right in, I think basically on day one. She is so much fun and everyone loves her. That includes my boyfriend Jon (the skeptic - "But what about all the hair she'll shed?") who now absolutely adores her. But no one could love her as much as I do! She's an absolute sweetheart, plus the best running partner ever. I told everyone at work (I manage a fitness center!) that I found the secret to exercise - get a husky!

She is just spoiled rotten. We run every morning for about 20-30 minutes and usually she gets another run, long walk or a play at the park in the evening. We've got a huge fenced in park two blocks from home that she knows as "Nikki's Park" (I don't have the heart to tell her other people use it)! So, she is getting plenty of exercise, even for a Siberian husky.

Also, just recently she has met her "boyfriend," Niko. Niko is my mom's three-year-old Siberian husky male. Don't worry, as you know Nikki is fixed but Niko is as well, so it's a harmless love! But they have so much fun together. She gets to see him frequently and they get to run and play and be "Huskies" together! It is absolutely great! So, I think she is pretty happy!

When I was looking at getting either a puppy from a breeder or rescuing a dog, I had heard from skeptics that shelter dogs couldn't bond like dogs you get as puppies from a breeder because you need the dog when they are young to completely bond with you. . .TOTALLY NOT TRUE! This young lady follows me everywhere! If I go downstairs to do laundry, she follows me and lies down on the floor while I work. Even if it's two seconds! Then I come upstairs to use the computer, study or even just grab something, and she's on the floor, curled up at my feet! So, there definitely hasn't been any trouble with her and me bonding.

Nikki is also a very good advertisement for your shelter (or any). So many people ask me about her, especially strangers, because of her beauty. And I tell them I got her from HHHS and nobody can believe it! They usually say, "You can get PUREBREDS from a shelter?" Or "That dog came from a shelter?!" So she is doing some good work for all shelters. You can get so many beautiful dogs with amazing personalities from shelters. She is just one of many.

She was a bit timid of men at first (maybe from dogcatchers) but she and Jon are wonderful together. She has him wrapped around her finger! But we are completely loving every minute with her. And even though she doesn't always like what they do to her at vet, she is a huge hit there! She has to make her rounds and give everyone kisses.

I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart. Every single person at HHHS made this experience one that I will never forget. You all truly care for the animals. With all of the sad stories out there, it is still heartwarming to know that these animals have wonderful people like you fighting for them. I can't ever thank you enough, though. Not just for giving me Nikki, but for loving her and all the other animals until the rightful owner comes. So, thank you, again, for all you have done. You are amazing people doing amazing work.

God Bless You, Your Families, and All the Little Ones There!
