Riley

Riley, a nine month old Samoyed mix, came into the shelter in early June 1997 as a cruelty case because he had a huge scar on his back (probably from a chemical burn) and was left chained and abandoned. He was so thin that even from a distance you could see every bone in his body. It is amazing that an abused dog can still be so trusting of humans. In spite of the abuse he had obviously endured, he was extremely friendly and loved everyone he met. His owners who abandoned him were never found, so when he was released for adoption, John and I adopted him because we had just lost Ryan to auto-immune hemolytic anemia. He has been the best dog and he never meets a stranger. He is extremely affectionate and loves to be close, but we have not been able to teach him that he shouldn’t hug everyone he meets. When it is time to go to bed, Riley and Suzie play a game to see who can get in the bed first and share the other half of my pillow. He has such spirit and a zest for life that he is a delight to be around. He is close to nine years old, but still acts like a puppy.
