Marlena Adkison
was named the 2001 Adult Volunteer of the Year and presented with a
T-shirt and certificate of appreciation at the HHHS annual meeting in
May.
Marlena promotes shelter animals and activities live on K-Country 106.9
radio station every single day. She serves on the Board of Directors
for Helping Hands and chairs the public relations committee. She co-chaired
last year’s Paws in the Park committee and this year she is chairing
the Paws in the Park publicity committee.
As an advocate for dogs in her neighborhood, Marlena recently took in
a stray until she could locate the owner. She excels at collecting in-kind
gifts for the shelter and promotes all kinds of donations for Helping
Hands. She visits the shelter to periodically check on certain animals
to see if they’ve been adopted.
Marlena always lends a hand at special events like walking dogs in the
St. Patrick’s Day parade. She will do anything that needs to be
done and with a smile. Her advocacy has reached many people in the community
and saved the lives of hundreds of homeless animals.
