Volunteer Opportunities
AT THE SHELTER
Bather
Bathe animals to get them ready for off-site events or adopt-a-pet booths.
Can also bathe just about anytime to make the animals look and feel
better, weather permitting.
Socializer
Spend time with the animals giving them one-on-one attention.

Greeter
Primarily on weekends. Greet potential adopters as they arrive at HHHS
and direct them to the appropriate staff person for questions they may
have.
OFF-SITE EVENTS (ADOPT-A-PET)
Supervisor
Responsible for transporting animals to and from off-site events. Also
responsible for the animals and volunteers at these events. This person
is a representative of HHHS and must be over 18 years of age and very
responsible. Requires additional training and a monthly commitment.
Showcaser
Must be over 16 years of age and responsible. Each volunteer will be
responsible for handling an animal at the event and will talk with potential
adopters about the animals. Information about the animals will be provided.
SPECIAL EVENTS
Lawn
& Garden Show
Volunteers are needed each day to showcase animals for adoption. This
indoor event is held at the Expocentre in February.
Bone Appetit
Volunteers are needed to assist with registration, setting up the silent
auction and walking animals in the pet parade. Could also use help transporting
animals to and from this event that takes place in May.
Paws in the Park
There are a variety of jobs at this annual event held in September.
We need help
setting up and tearing down. This requires early morning arrival and
staying after the event to make sure everything is loaded and clean.
Rent-a-dog
booth – HHHS offers animals for rental. We need
volunteers to run the booth and help take care of the animals during
the event. Volunteers will collect money and identification from renters.
Pancake
feed – We need people to help serve food, clean the area and collect
money.
Pre-party
– Volunteers help set up before the event and clean up afterwards.
Also need people to serve food, help with registration and distribute
bags and t-shirts.
Silent auction
– Volunteers help set up and monitor the auction. Volunteers must
stay until auction is over and all items have been picked up and paid
for.
Retail booth
– Volunteers help set up and tear down the booth and collect money
for items sold.
Volunteer
table – Volunteers working at this table must arrive before event.
Assist other volunteers with sign-in and nametags. As volunteers arrive,
direct them to their assigned areas. Answer questions direct volunteer
“floaters” to appropriate areas to cover for breaks and
extra help when needed.
Greeter –
Volunteer will be available early to help direct (by way of map) vendors
arriving to set up their booths.
Cider
Days
Volunteers are needed each day to showcase animals for adoption. This
outdoor event is held at the Expocentre in September.
OTHER ACTIVITIES
Foster
Parent
Foster our animals in your own home. Pets considered for foster care
include adoptable ones waiting for a permanent home. There is also a
special need for foster homes for animals with health issues, nursing
mothers with litters and babies without mothers. Foster parents must
be licensed by the State of Kansas. Call HHHS at 233-7325 to learn how
you can obtain a license and become a foster parent.
Fundraising
Projects done on your own where proceeds are donated to HHHS.
