KJ Thies was named 2002 Youth Volunteer of the Year at the HHHS annual
meeting in May.
KJ attends Landon Middle School, takes dance lessons and is a Girl Scout.
Amazingly, she still found time to put in 130 hours of volunteer service
to Helping Hands this past year.
As a long-time volunteer and a regular at the mall Adopt-A-Pet booth,
KJ is very knowledgeable about the shelter and our adoption guidelines.
She provides wonderful assistance to our staff by talking with customers
and answering their questions to facilitate adoptions. Her dedication
has contributed tremendously to the success of this program. She is
a mentor to new volunteers and leads by example.
Some of the other mobile adoption events that KJ has assisted with include
Jackson’s Greenhouse, Holiday Festival of Crafts, Lawn & Garden
Show and Petco.
She has also spent time at the shelter walking dogs that need exercise
and socializing puppies to improve their chance for adoption. She has
assisted with Paws in the Park, Bone Appetit and Pet Photos with Santa
at Petsmart. KJ walked shelter dogs in the Christmas parade and the
St. Patrick’s Day parade to raise awareness for homeless animals
in our community.
This remarkable individual hardly ever says “NO” when something
is requested of her. She gives 110 percent 100 percent of the time.
For such a young person, her advocacy has reached so many. Her compassion
and commitment set a winning example for all.
