Check out this amazing story of kindness and love that came full circle at HHHS on December 6, 2019.

In 2011, Grace was a poor college student who had newly moved to Topeka and didn’t know anybody. She visited the old HHHS shelter to look for a canine companion. There she met Patches and took to her immediately, but the adoption fee would be a lot for her budget. The next day she was informed that somebody had sponsored Patches’ fee! Grace adopted Patches who became Padma, and they had 7 wonderful years together as Grace earned two degrees and started her career. When Grace joined our team at HHHS as our new Director of Business Development & Special Events in October, she was curious about the kind soul who had sponsored her first dog 8 years ago. She found out it was Mary Ann & Roscoe Earp, who as many of you know are long-time supporters and team members of Helping Hands Humane Society. Each year Mary Ann & Roscoe provide lunch for the HHHS staff around the holidays, and at this year’s lunch, TODAY, Grace got to meet Mary Ann & Roscoe for the first time and thank them for giving her the priceless gift of a loving companion from HHHS.

To pay it forward, Grace offered to sponsor a pet currently up for adoption and keep the cycle of love going. Mary Ann chose Dash the puppy (who happens to be the puppy who was featured on our #GivingTuesday video in the medical center–she was just waking up from her spay!).

There are so many different ways to help pets in need and the people who love them. Thank you so much to everyone who has sponsored a pet, adopted, volunteered, fostered, donated, or supported us in another way. Sometimes you are lucky and get to see for yourself the amazing reverberations of your good deed, but even when you don’t, please know that they are there and your kindness makes the world a better place!
