Am I eligible for services?
While we don’t wish to turn away any pet in need, we do want to emphasize that these services are subsidized and targeted to individuals and families who would not be able to afford sterilization elsewhere. If you can afford the surgery at full vet cost, we urge you to contact your provider and schedule a sterilization as soon as possible.
To qualify for services, pet owners must meet one of the following criteria:
– Be a guardian with a cat, pit bull mix, or rabbit. ANY personally owned feline, pit bull mix, or rabbit can be fixed at our clinic with NO eligibility requirements! Please submit a Spay/Neuter application- eligibility requirement section will be disregarded for kitties, pitties, and bunnies. FOR KITTIES & PITTIES: While funds last, your sterilization surgery will be discounted to $52 for a pit bull mix and $26 for a cat.
– Provide proof of income and qualify under the KS/Federal poverty level calculator (generally this is $25,000/year/adult)
– Receive one of the following state assistance programs:
–SSDI (social security disability)
–SNAP (Food benefits)
–Medicaid
–TANF (cash assistance for families)
–KanCare

Why should you spay and neuter your pets?

reduces pet over-population
Our community and shelter are overwhelmed with unplanned litters as it is. When an animal gives birth to a litter that was not planned, it causes a strain on the community. Would-be adopters forgo adopting a shelter animal and often over-taxed pet owners feel no other option than to surrender the litters to our shelter, which adds to our annual intake of homeless animals to care for. We could provide so much more care to pets in need if we had less of them in our community.

Saves you money
It costs a lot of money to vaccinate puppies and kittens! If your pet has a litter of babies, not only is the cost of providing their medical care until they are weaned much more expensive, consider the cost of feeding them, doing laundry and cleaning up after them, and even licensing with the city if you choose to keep them. Paying a sterilization fee is still much cheaper than if you have a litter to care for.

Reduces unwanted behaviors
Research has shown that pets who sterilized are less likely to escape/roam to find a mate. It can reduce spraying behaviors in cats, and can reduce territorial agression.

improves your pet's overall health
- Spayed and neutered animals live longer, healthy lives.
- Spaying female cats and dogs helps prevent uterine infections and mammary cancer, which is fatal in about 50% of dogs and 90% of cats. Spaying your pet before her first heat offers the best protection from these diseases.
- Neutering male cats and dogs can prevent testicular cancer, especially if they are neutered prior to 6 months of age.
- Neutered dogs and cats are much less likely to roam and fight. This also makes them less likely to be injured in traffic or become lost.
- Neutered males tend to have better behavior and are less likely to spray or mark their territory. Unneutered dogs also tend to be more aggressive towards other animals.
