Volunteering From Home

Volunteering Beyond the Shelter

There are many ways that you may continue to volunteer for HHHS without having to be present  at the shelter or at off-site events. You can do these activities with family or friends who are too  young to volunteer at the shelter or cannot physically come to the shelter. Creative Volunteering is  volunteering for the organization by developing your own special projects to acquire funds, in-kind  donations, etc. This form of volunteering lends itself well to large groups and children. It may  require a devotion of time and effort, but the animals will still reap the benefits.  For additional ideas of how to help, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator at mackenzie.gress@hhhstopeka.org

01. Wish List

Our greatest wish is to find a home for every animal at the shelter. Until we can accomplish that, we have a need for several items that can help us provide for them. Spring Cleaning? Don’t forget about us! A frayed towel or a faded blanket is just the ticket. Our kitties and puppies love to cuddle and snuggle up in them. HHHS also accepts donation of aluminum cans.

Items can be dropped off at the shelter, 5720 SW 21st Street, during regular business hours. Let us know if you need assistance removing items from your vehicle. Thank you for your support!

03. Make Enrichment Toys

1. Sock kicker toys – Take a small sock and pour in about a tablespoon of catnip. (Catnip should smell minty. If it doesn’t have any scent, it’s past its prime.) Then stuff in batting until the sock is filled out.

2. Fan toy – Take 1/4 of a page of paper and accordion fold it, then attach a pipe cleaner to the center and spread out the paper.

02. Make a Donation

Helping Hands Humane Society is a private, non-profit 501(c)3 organization. Donations are tax deductible. (Please consult your tax advisor.) Other than monies received through contractual agreements for animal services provided to the city and county, we are funded entirely by private donations. Your dollars do make a difference in the lives of homeless animals.

Caring for ever increasing numbers of animals puts a tremendous burden on our staff, facility and limited resources. Every donation is critical for us to carry out our mission to advocate for animal welfare and to provide compassionate care and protection for all animals that find their way to our shelter. We need the support of everyone in the community who is concerned about the well being of animals.

Thank you so much for your interest in making a difference to our many animals at Helping Hands Humane Society. We have many different ways that you can donate.
