Tails on the Trails is our fall wellness fundraiser hosted in benefit for the animals in our care. Over the course of two weeks we’ll be offering various exercise and wellness activities for attendees including yoga with shelter pets, at-your-own-pace walk-a-thon, and more. Check back later for more details about this event!

This year’s event spokespet is actually TAILLESS! Taffy was found as a tiny kitten in 2020 by a nurse who was on her way to work while most of the world was locked down in the early days of COVID-19. She had a severed leg and tail injury, and luckily that caring citizen took care of Taffy overnight until she could be brought to HHHS. Our on-staff veterinarian took great care in cleaning her wounds and fixing up her let. Taffy lost her tail, but kept her life and was fostered in the administrative offices so our medical team could keep a close eye on her. As she grew and improved, she went into foster care at our Director of Philanthropy’s house. When the time came for Taffy to go up for adoption, her foster family knew they couldn’t let her go and she became an official member of the family in July 2020. At 4 years old now, Taffy is full of personality! Her favorite game is Rocket Ship in which she jumps into a cardboard box and meows until her dad lifts her up and zooms her around the room. This has been a tradition since she was little. She’s also best friends with a giant dog named Amos. Taffy is proud to be the face of Tail(less) on the Trails 2024!

Running and walking together to save lives

Event History

In 2009, two local members of our community and shelter supporters – Lena Hayden and Linda De La Rosa banded together to form the Tails on the Trail. This was around the time HHHS was trying to move in to our new facility on 21st and Belle from our old facility on NW Rochester. Lena and Linda wanted to help raise funds as well as combine their shared love and dogs and running. The event’s goal is get families and individuals out for fresh air, socialize their pets, promote exercising with pets, and raising needed dollars before the winter months hit.  Thanks to these two ladies, Tails on the Trail has raised over $100,000 for the shelter since it’s foundation! We can’t wait to continue this event to help raise awareness our cause.
