Tails on the Trails is is a two-week Valentine-themed fundraiser that brings the community together in support of shelter pets. Participants are invited to explore local Love Stops, support partnering businesses, and give back in meaningful ways—all while helping animals in need. Every dollar raised goes directly toward the care and well-being of pets at Helping Hands Humane Society. Check back later for more details about this event!
This year’s event spokespet is Bowser! He is proud to be the face of Tails on the Trails 2026!
Bowser is a 8-year-old Rottweiler and the original heart stealer of the animal household. Also known as Big Boy B, Big Ole Bean, and Bowsey Boy, he takes his role as family protector very seriously, right in between naps, of course. At 120 pounds of love and loyalty, he spends his days lounging around the house on patrol, barking at horses on TV (they’re highly suspicious), chasing sneaky shadows, and showing off his favorite toys. As the oldest of the crew, Bowser shares his home with a pug, a cat, a ferret, and a lizard, and watches over them all with calm big dog energy. His Valentine wish is simple: tasty treats, plenty of belly rubs, and time with the people he loves most.

Event History
In 2009, two local members of our community and shelter supporters – Lena Hayden and Linda De La Rosa banded together to form the Tails on the Trail. This was around the time HHHS was trying to move in to our new facility on 21st and Belle from our old facility on NW Rochester. Lena and Linda wanted to help raise funds as well as combine their shared love and dogs and running. The event’s goal is get families and individuals out for fresh air, socialize their pets, promote exercising with pets, and raising needed dollars before the winter months hit. Thanks to these two ladies, Tails on the Trail has raised over $100,000 for the shelter since it’s foundation! We can’t wait to continue this event to help raise awareness our cause.
