History of: The HHHS Golf Tournament

About THE EVENT

Mary Ann and Roscoe Earp Golf Tournament

The Mary Ann & Roscoe Earp Golf Tournament, founded in 2009 by Mary Ann and Roscoe Earp, holds a special place in the history of our shelter. The late Mary Ann Earp (d. 2022), served on the HHHS board for an incredible 53 years. She was a dedicated advocate for animal welfare. She and her husband Roscoe founded this annual event to kickstart fundraising efforts for the capital campaign to build a new shelter, replacing our former location on Rochester Road. At the time, the old facility lacked adequate space and services for the animals in our care, and it was clear that expansion was essential.

The inaugural golf tournament, which was held every Spring at the Topeka Country Club, brought together local businesses as sponsors and golf enthusiasts eager to play on the esteemed course while supporting a worthy cause. The first event raised over $25,000, laying the foundation for years of impactful fundraising.

Running annually until 2023, the tournament ultimately raised nearly $140,000 to benefit pets in need at Helping Hands Humane Society. The funds played a critical role in completing the capital campaign for our new shelter, which opened its doors in January 2013.

We retired the event in 2024, but its legacy lives on as a shining example of community collaboration and compassion. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to every sponsor, player, and supporter who contributed to the tournament’s success.

If you have ideas for hosting a future fundraiser to support our shelter, we would love to hear from you. Together, we can continue making a difference for the animals who rely on us.

Thank you!
